Quality standards

The AIPC Quality Standards Program was created in 2007 in response to member demand for an industry-specific framework to measure and recognize convention centre performance. At the time, no such tailored program existed — members wanted a credible, “arms-length” process that would both benchmark their operations and demonstrate excellence to clients, owners, and communities.

The resulting AIPC Quality Standards Program has a number of key features, including:

Flexible and adaptable: Process-oriented rather than prescriptive, making it relevant to all types of facilities — regardless of size, age, or configuration.
Comprehensive coverage: Documents policies and procedures across 10+ core management areas, including customer service, facility quality, employee relations, financial integrity, sustainability, security, and more.
Independent audit: Centres that complete the external audit earn the designation “AIPC Quality Standards Audited”, a credential that strengthens credibility with clients, owners, and communities.
Staff engagement: The process fosters team involvement and continuous improvement across operations.

Updated Standards – Effective September 1, 2025

To reflect today’s rapidly evolving business environment, the AIPC Quality Standards have been updated for the first time. Eleven new or revised elements now expand the program’s scope, including:

  • Enhanced security leadership for rapid emergency response (evacuation, lockdown, shelter-in-place).
  • Inclusivity measures, such as special access provisions and regular employee feedback on inclusivity in the workplace.
  • Comprehensive cybersecurity requirements to strengthen digital resilience.
  • Expanded sustainability initiatives that align with global ESG priorities.

These updates apply to all new applications submitted on or after September 1, 2025.

Recognition

Centres that successfully complete the audit are authorized to display the AIPC Quality Standards Audited logo in promotional and client materials, signaling operational excellence and adherence to globally recognized best practices.
