P&J Live: Leading the way to Net Zero Events

AIPC has established a dedicated sustainability working group comprising eight sustainability officers from around the world. This group provides a platform for networking, supports AIPC’s commitment to the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative, and facilitates the exchange of best practices. Meeting every six weeks, the group works collaboratively to drive sustainable innovation within the industry.

One key initiative is the creation of a library of sustainability case studies, regularly featured in the AIPC monthly newsletter and accessible via the AIPC Intranet.

This month, we spotlight P&J Live’s Carbon Reduction Journey.
Recognised as one of the most sustainable venues of its kind in the UK, the ASM Global-managed venue is setting a new benchmark with its ambitious Net Zero Carbon commitment.

P&J Live has signed the Net Zero Carbon Events pledge and is implementing a comprehensive Carbon Reduction Plan to halve its emissions by 2030 and achieve Net Zero by 2050. This includes a strategic focus on energy, transport, food and waste, and staff engagement.

The venue’s low-carbon energy centre includes an anaerobic digestion plant that injects biogas into the grid. From 2025, it will also export hydrogen to fuel Aberdeen’s public bus fleet. Efforts to cut food miles, reduce waste, and prioritise recycling are reinforced by participation in the “Guardians of Grub” initiative and local sourcing strategies.

Staff are actively involved through carbon literacy training and sustainability pledges, while clients benefit from eco-conscious infrastructure like EV charging stations and recyclable display materials. P&J Live also works with Positive Planet to track and improve its carbon performance.

The results speak for themselves: 85% of plastic from food and beverage is recycled, zero waste is sent to landfill, and the venue has achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating. By combining innovation, accountability, and community collaboration, P&J Live is leading by example in sustainable event operations.
