Future Shapers: application process and selection criteria

“Together, we shape the future of venues.”

The Future Shapers Program returns for a fifth year, following the overwhelming success of the last four editions.  The program is designed to support the venue management industry by supporting the development of its high performers to think and act as leaders.

Participants will be senior managers on a path to the highest leadership roles within their organisations.  Through education, a community of peers and mentors, and a platform to perform, the program supports these future leaders to become future shapers of our industry.

The Future Shapers platform allows high performers to connect, share and learn.

THE PROGRAM INCLUDES:

  • Free registration to the AIPC conference and other key educational events
  • Exclusive online sessions with experts from within and outside the venue industry.
  • A team challenge to be presented at the AIPC Annual Conference
  • Access to all AIPC educational activities and materials
  • Support from the previous year Future Shapers Alumni
  • Join the AIPC Future Shapers Alumni

REQUIREMENTS:

The Future Shapers programme is open to persons working at an AIPC member Convention centre. Following criteria is required:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the event industry (not limited to convention centres)
  • Endorsement by your executive manager
  • Commitment by the management to:
    • Allow for sufficient time to follow and contribute to the programme
    • Fund participation to the 2026 Annual Conference taking place in Bilbao (28 June -1 July 2026)

Candidates will submit the following documents:

  • A resume
  • A motivational letter outlining why you would like to participate in the programme and giving an overview of your top 3 skills
  • An endorsement letter signed by an executive manager
  • A video explaining what you see as the challenge in convention centre management you would like to work on and why
  • A commitment to participate in seven to nine 1.5hr lectures, groupwork towards the Team Challenge and attendance at the 2026 Annual Congress. (NB Future Shapers will be required to be onsite in the evening of June 24)
  • Complete application form (page 3)
  • A professional headshot

FAQ

  • Who is the target group of the Future Shapers Programme?
    • The target group is talented individuals from across the industry who have demonstrated leadership and who are on their journey to become part of the executive leadership team. Or to put it differently: the future leaders of organizations.
  • Is there an age limit?
    • There is no age limit for joining the programme.
  • What is the cost for joining the programme?
    • There is a €750 registration fee and participants will be expected to cover their travel & expenses at the Annual Congress.
  • Is it mandatory to join the Annual Congress?
    • Candidates are indeed expected to attend the Annual Congress as the Team Challenges will be presented at the meeting
  • What if I change jobs during the programme?
    • If a candidate decides to leave the organization she/he is working for, the participation in the programme ends automatically.

A Selection Committee will review and score all applications.Selection into the program will be based solely on these ratings. The Selection Committee will announce program participants in early November 2025.
